How to make your child concentrate on his or her studies at home.

Most times, kids are asked to get on their books or go study their books at home. Then you discover that they're either sleeping on the book or doing something else entirely.
Sometimes they'll spend a whole lot of time alone and report that they've read the book to get your approval so they can do their pleasure.

Why is reading so boring to kids?

The truth about reading is this - you'll have to remain at a spot and look at written texts for minutes and hours. It's definitely not going to be an interesting experience . But then we must read and study especially if we want to be good academically or have better understanding of an idea or concept.

What makes reading interesting is to read what you like. Read what will keep you on the book. To create that habit in your child, get him or her books with beautiful colored pictures. If your child is very interested in cartoon, get him books that have cartoon characters. There's a popular  cartoon my kids always discuss those days in school. "Ben 10". When any of them get a t-shirt or a wrist watch that has Ben 10 picture on it, they'll all want to see the t-shirt or the wrist watch. They'll get so excited in looking at the wrist watch/t-shirt.

When you get your kid books that have interesting stories with beautiful pictures of cartoon. They'll try to read it and no matter what they'll finish the book.
And make sure you do at least two books every week. The volume has to be very small. This is going to make the child want more if the book is interesting. Keep it going this way. You'll see how your child's reading ability will rapidly improve.


Why do most kids feel it's difficult to read and finish a whole book?

As a parent, how many times have you read and finished a book and discuss the beauty of the book with your kid? This is why your child has no interest in studying/reading.
You're always on the tv watching soccer or movie. So the idea in your child is that tv programs is a  good pass time instead of reading. Reading develops the brain and make you smart. Television makes you weak. And the effect is - anytime you pick a book to read, you get bored. The reason is because you've overloaded the brain with pictures. And you get tired when you're not looking at images.
There's a saying that you're the average of the people you spend time with. Then if you're dull without habit of reading, your child is more than average of you.
Try to read and encourage your child to read as well.
Educate your child on the need to study. Be a role model. Read one interesting novel and discuss the novel with your child. You can read a motivational book and discuss the content of the book with your child. You might be surprise to see your child reading the same book you read.

Why do kids lack the attention they need to be able to read and retain information ?

The moment you pick a book to read. Everything on the wall becomes very interesting. The light bulb would seem beautiful and the music would skip to your favorite track. You'll see where the wall has cracked and need to be fixed. It happens to kids too. The moment they get on a book, every other thing around or within the room becomes very interesting.
This is why we always have a reading corner or a study.
You can't sit in front of your television with the volume turned down to read. The moment you feel like taking your head up, you'll be caught by an interested image and you'll tell yourself - let me just hear what they're saying and put it back off.
You'll always feel distracted and remain on one chapter of that book without achieving much. As well as kids. Your child cannot concentrate while you're watching tv. His eyes will always want to see the next image and causing serious distraction to him .
 Get a reading table and chair and set a corner for it. No television  or music when your child is studying. Put off all distracting tools so that he can concentrate .
Another thing that could distract the child from reading is tiredness.
If your child is tired and need to relax and you hand a book to him, he'll sincerely sleep on the book. So make sure he's had his sleep and warm bath and then he can read.
Then lastly- Market the book to your child. Tell him how interesting the book is. Why he need to read this super interesting book.
